Staying in Glinton at the begining of April, understand Wisbech is not to far away. First visit to Cambridgeshire as we normally holiday abroad. However just got a new dog and dont want to put her in kennels. Anybody any ideas about local sites or things to do that are dog friendly

How interesting this site is. My Mother Ella Worts was born in Wisbech in 1916. One of 4 daughters of George Worts, he owned the Farmers Boy Inn. I'm researching her life so its wonderful to see where she came from. She immigrated to NZ after WW2 - following her sister Grace. I beleive both her other sisters stayed in the local area - Dora and Amy. The family name Crawford is in there somewhere - I think it was my grandmothers maiden name. or one of my aunts married names...

Hi Phillipe,
Well 1974 was a very buzzing year in Wisbech, particularly around the market square pubs like Mermaid, George, Ship Hotel, Rose n Crown Hotel and the Globe. I now live in Cyprus but im afraid there is only the Rose n Crown and the Globe(now under a new name)left. I used to be in those bars and i know a lot of substances could be found at that time. But they were great times. Regards Peter Marsh

Hi, When I was 21 I have been living in Wisbech for 6 months at the Royal Hotel. And I used to go every night at The Mermaid pub on the market place. Now I am 57 and I'd like to come back to see how Wisbech is now. I remember that in 1974 you can have many illegal product. I am very happy to see Wisbech on the Internet and to see place where I was.
Thank you
