Parish Registers and Archives

The Wisbech and Fenland Museum is designated a parochial record office and now holds the registers for 28 parishes in and around Wisbech, both in Cambridgeshire and Norfolk, and also the burial registers for the Leverington Road Cemetery in Wisbech. The registers on deposit are listed below. Many of the parishes have also deposited material from their parish chest. These include vestry minutes and accounts, poor law records, surveyors of the highways, tithe distribution and enclosure acts.

The Museum also holds Manorial and land records for Wisbech and some surrounding parishes. Our map collection covers some local estates, tithe and enclosure awards, drainage and turnpike acts and can prove a useful source of information for local historians. The Museum Library has a local history section with a subject index listing the Acts of Parliament relating to local tolls and land drainage. The Library also includes some poll books and local trade directories.

If you wish to do research at the Museum, it is essential that you book in advance as space is limited. To make an appointment, please telephone 01945 583817.  

Opening Times 
The Museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from l0am to 4pm.
